ADRA Commits $50,000 in Response to Cyclone Yasi

Wahroonga, New South Wales
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Australia has committed $50,000 to support those affected by the devastating Cyclone Yasi.
The category 5 storm, Cyclone Yasi hit the Australian east coast early Thursday morning and has left a trail of destruction in its wake with many homes completely ruined, streets littered with debris and thousands of acres of crops completely wiped out.  Today, tens of thousands of houses are still without power or water and could remain without these essentials for many weeks.
“ADRA’s financial commitment will ensure people in the affected areas gain immediate access to necessary supplies.” said Chris Olafson, ADRA Australia’s Director of Emergency Management.
ADRA Australia’s commitment is an initial response to the disaster, as staff on the ground work to formulate a detailed recovery plan to bolster the relief and recovery effort. 
“Thousands of people, including local farmers within this region, have lost everything, not just their homes, but their crops, their businesses – in effect their entire livelihoods have been destroyed in one awful morning.
